Blairmore village stretches out alongside Loch Long and has a lovely pier, built in 1855 and renovated in 2005 in time for its 150 year celebration. The pier can be used for sea-fishing, looking for the ‘local’ seal or porpoises or watching the wide variety of seabirds in the area with an abundance of Eider ducks and Oystercatchers. Despite feeling ‘away from it all’, Blairmore is located just 8 miles from Dunoon, which has a full range of shops and services should you need them. It is located approximately 1 hour from Glasgow and its airports and just over 2 hours from Edinburgh. Whilst the ferry routes from Gourock to Hunter’s Quay or Dunoon provide regular short crossings, it is also possible to drive the slightly longer scenic route by Loch Lomond which means access is always available outwith the ferry timetables or for those approaching from the North.

It is an ideal location from which to explore the West of Scotland and the Isles with the opportunity to engage in many kinds of outdoor activities at close proximity. These include: golf, sea and loch fishing, birdwatching, mountain-biking, walking, climbing, horse-riding, sailing, quad-biking, powerboat rides, wildlife cruises and even Waverley steamer cruises in the Spring/Summer seasons. For those who like to visit gardens, the Benmore botanical gardens are nearby with their giant redwood trees and many other gardens are listed in the links page. Many ferry and island journeys are possible from the Cowal peninsula : The Isle of Bute is an easy crossing from Colintraive and the Calmac ferry from Portavadie to Tarbert provides an alternative route into Kintyre with the possibility of island hopping to Lochranza on Arran or visiting Gigha.
